Born October 11, 1970 in Nikolayev (Mykolaiv), Ukraine - pretty small and crime-ridden city.
Finished high school and got admitted to the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Phystech) in 1987. Initially attended classes at the Department of Physical and Quantum Electronics, transferred to the Department of General and Applied Physics (Theoretical Group led by V. Ginzburg) at the end of my third year.
Graduated with honors in 1993. Diploma research conducted at the Theoretical Department of the Lebedev Physics Institute in Moscow.
Got admitted to the New York University Ph.D. program in Physics and moved to New York on August 29, 1993.
Graduated with Ph.D. in Physics degree in June 2000.
